I started reading “The Gerson Therapy” again. This time in desperation. After a five day long headache something had to change. Too tired to attack a diet change head but with enough energy to ease into it, I began by making the simple Hippocrates soup (certain vegetables cooked and blended together) recommended for daily consumption. I sipped down a cup of that when I got hungry. It is so bland it didn’t really have much flavor to me, but it made my back feel fresh if that makes any sense. I had thrown extra potatoes into the pot so I could eat them if I wanted something more. This along with oatmeal sprinkled with raisins, and some fruit if I wanted something more, was my diet for the first week. I lost about 5 lbs that first 7 days and stopped craving processed food and sweets.
The Gerson Therapy was originally developed by Max Gerson, MD to help him get rid of his migraine headaches. The therapy also proved to be able to reverse cancer and other diseases. The basics of the Gerson Therapy are fairly simple: no added salt, no processed foods, no meat, no dairy, no on most grains, no oils except for raw flaxseed oil, fresh cold pressed fruit and vegetable juices (one cup 13 times a day with one hour between) for vitamins and minerals, regular meals of vegan type, and a coffee enema every 4 waking hours (to eliminate toxins). This along with some supplements make up the Gerson Therapy.
On the second week I started the coffee enemas and the juicing. I am three days into the second week now. The first day of the second week I did the coffee enema once. The second day I did it twice. I diluted the coffee to about 1/3 what they ask for in the directions because the time I tried coffee enemas years ago, I felt very nauseated afterward due to the extreme detox effect. The diluted solution is just right for me.
On the second day of the second week I continued with two coffee enemas and started juicing, but without enough energy to do more, I juiced only twice: one straight celery, and one a mix of three parts carrot and one part apple. I had more energy on that second day than I have had in a long time.
Today is day three of the second week. I plan to continue increasing my efforts until I am on the full protocol, and I will see my lyme specialist to discuss what I am doing.
I took my horses out one at a time to graze in the front lawn this morning, which I have not had the strength or desire to do for over a year. I cleaned the kitchen right after juicing which is unusual for me. And now I am so excited about the prospect of feeling better I have to write about it!
With Lyme disease not yet under control I believe the Gerson Therapy is going to help me detox and gain energy as I continue my journey toward recovery.
